A new product by MadeBy2D is available: News Aggregator v1.0.6 - Aggregates RSS feeds with duplicate title detection and keyword filtering.

Features

Aggregates RSS feeds from admin configurable news sources.

• Manage your sources through the admin control panel
• Individually color code each source
• Set fetch frequency between 30 min to 12 hours
• Choose which category to allow from RSS feed
• Preview a feed before saving
• Individual news items can be managed through the Admin CP and be hidden, marked as not duplicate, or hidden.

News Feed

• The News Feed displays fetched news entries with individual source filters.
• The source filters are color coded, but I have included a style property to disable color mapping.
• Includes top, bottom, and sidebar widget positions.

Widgets

• Includes two widgets, a latest news and news ticker that can be placed anywhere.
• Can configure how many news items to display, and which sources to include.

Duplicate Detection

• When new items are fetched, the titles are matched against existing titles to detect duplicates and hide.
• Configurable similarity percentage in options.
• News items deemed to be a duplicate, will be automatically hidden from view. Hidden news items can be marked as not duplicate to return to view.
• You can also manually set news sources as duplicate if you choose.

Keyword Filtering

• Add keywords to filter out news items with an exact match or containing certain words.
• Batch adding keywords is supported as well.

Automatic pruning and age limit

• You can set how far back you would like to fetch feeds. Default is 30 days.
• News items will be automatically pruned in 180 days by default, unless changed in the settings.

Features and Changes:

Faster, lighter feed fetches

• News Aggregator now tells each feed server what it last saw. If nothing has changed, the server responds instantly.
• Parallel feed fetches. Sources are now fetched concurrently instead of one at a time. On sites with many sources, scheduled fetch runs finish dramatically faster

Flagged item retention period:

• Flagged items are now pruned on their own retention schedule. News items that have been hidden, filtered by a keyword, or flagged as duplicates are automatically deleted after a short retention period of 30 days. Can be changed.

Three new admin options

1. Choose how long to keep flagged news items. Default is 30 days.
2. (adv) Choose how many feeds to fetch in parallel. Default is 5, choose up to 20.
3. (adv) Choose how long to wait for a single feed’s response. Default is 15 seconds, and feeds that exceed this time or are unresponsive result in an error.
